Presentation Title:

Shame and Countertransference

Presentation Description:

Many counseling programs discuss clinicians experiencing countertransference as something 'bad' or to feel shame about so, many therapists struggle when they feel countertransference coming up in session. Countertransference happening is a normal part of therapeutic work, but it is very important how a clinician addresses it with themselves and with their clients so it can be an opportunity for growth. My goal is to educate you about the different types of countertransference and how they show up, normalize the shame that can come up around it, as well as give choices about how to handle it when you feel it.
