Nicole M. Pigford, Trauma and Grief Specialist, LMFT  

Objective:  

  • How does a clinician's own experiences with trauma impact providers when working with clients? 

  • How do current events to include COVID, political and civil unrest impact providers and working with clients? 

  • When working with clients who have experienced trauma and grief, how does vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue come into play? 

  • The importance of self- care?  How does this impact working with clients? 

 

Bio: 

Nicole Pigford is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been working with YES Prep Public Schools as the Trauma and Grief Specialist since July 2018.  Over the course of her time with YES Prep, Nicole has developed, designed and implemented a therapeutic program utilizing the CBITS curriculum to provide both group and individual supports to those students who have been impacted by trauma and grief.  These programs have been utilized by 15 of the 19 campuses across YES Prep, serving over 150 students during the 18-19, 19-20, and 20-21 school years.   

Prior to coming to YES Prep Public Schools Nicole worked as a therapist and outreach manager for Project HELP Inc. for 7 and a half years located in Naples, FL.  Project HELP Inc. is the rape recovery and victim service center for residents of Collier County FL.  This agency provides prevention, intervention, victim advocacy, and crisis response services to individuals and families who have been impacted by trauma and grief.  During her tenure with Project HELP, Nicole provided both individual and support group therapeutic services to survivors of trauma and grief as well as spending hundreds of hours over her seven years as an active member of the sexual assault response team and answering calls on the 24 hour crisis hotline.
